Someone — your attorney, accountant, lender, or another professional you're working with — has asked you for documents through docEvault. This page explains what to do.
You don't need to create an account, choose a password, or install anything.
Uploading
- Open the link in the email or text message you received. It takes you straight to your document checklist.
- Look at the list. Each line is one document the firm needs from you.
- Select an item and either drag your file onto the page, choose it with the file picker, or take a photo of the document with your phone.
- Repeat for each item on the list.
- That's it. There's nothing to submit or send — the firm sees each document as soon as it uploads.
What you can upload
PDFs, photos, and scans all work. If you have a paper document and no scanner, use your phone's camera — that's what most people do.
If something doesn't apply to you
Some checklists let you mark an item as not applicable. If the firm has asked for something you genuinely don't have — a document for a business you don't own, for instance — use that rather than leaving it blank, so they know you didn't just forget.
If there's no option to do that, send them a message instead.
Asking a question
There's a message box in the portal. Anything you send there goes to the firm and shows up attached to your request, so it won't get lost in someone's inbox.
Uploading something extra
You can upload documents the firm didn't specifically ask for. If you think something is relevant, add it.
What happens next
The firm reviews each document. If something is unreadable or incomplete they'll ask you to send it again, and you'll get a message explaining what was wrong. Once everything is accepted, you'll get a note saying the request is complete.
Until then, you may get reminder emails or texts about anything still outstanding. They stop automatically once you're done.
